Most African beekeepers still sell raw honey at the farm gate, missing out on 60–80% of the value the hive produces. Wax candles, propolis tinctures and certified pollination contracts with horticultural farms are all on the table.
What is needed is processing infrastructure at county level, traceability systems for export markets, and training that goes beyond hive management into food safety and branding.
AISPAR is working with three county governments to pilot apiculture hubs — shared facilities where small producers can aggregate, process and certify together. Early signs are promising.
